A series of biological active mixed ligand complexes of arsenic(III) of the type AsCl(C15H12N2OX)(S2NC7H5X') and As(C15H12N2OX)(2)(S2NC7H5X') where X = -H, -CH3, -OCH3 and -Cl; X' = -CH3, -OCH3 have been prepared and studied. These complexes has been made by reacting the dichloroarsenic(III) pyrazolines and chloroarsenic(III) dipyrazoline with sodium salt of (N-aryl dithiocarbamate) in 1 : 1 molar ratio in anhydrous benzene at elevated temperature and characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N, S, CI and As), molecular weight measurement, UV-Visible, near and far IR, multinuclear NMR (H-1 and C-13) spectroscopy and FAB mass spectrometry. A distorted trigonal bipyramidal and distorted octahedral structure around central As-III atom for AsCl(C15H12N2OX')(S2NC7H5X') and As(C15H12N2OX)(2)(S2NC7H5X') has been suggested respectively. Antibacterial and antifungal potential of dichloroarsenic(III) pyrazolines, chloroarsenic(III) dipyrazolines and these newly synthesized derivatives are also discussed.
