Antiferromagnetic transition and martensite transformation in Mn-Ni alloys

By dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA.), resistance method and transmission electron microscope (TEM), the relationships of the internal friction and moduli of Mn-Ni alloys with temperature were measured, M-s and t(n) were confirmed and the microstructure was observed. Compared with Mn-Cu alloy, the coupling mechanism was investigated and the effect of antiferromagnetic transition and martensite transformation on the twin formation was analyzed. The results show that a high damping capacity can be formed through the overlap between the twin peak and martensite transformation peak or the twin formed with antiferromagnetic transition in Mn-Ni alloys; otherwise, the formation of coupling is related not only on distortion degree of strain release but also on the difference between M-s and t(n).
