On the design of benchmark problems for boundary element methods

In this note we discuss the design of benchmark problems with special emphasis on boundary element methods. These methods are in general based on various boundary integral formulations and different discretization techniques. Hence it seems to be more complicated to describe benchmark problems for boundary element methods than for other methods such as finite elements. The current aim should be the comparison of particular components in order to find an optimal strategy for the future design of boundary element software.
