摘要
A new coolant nozzle, named a small gap nozzle, has been developed and employed in slit grinding for a thin blade in order to suppress blade wear effectively. This nozzle is characterized by its capability in maintaining a small clearance between the blade surface and the nozzle tip with ease and the one in supplying coolant to the grinding zone effectively by the adhesion of coolant to the circumferential face and the side faces of the thin blade. It allows the coolant flow rate be reduced significantly. Furthermore, the nozzle is very simple and cost-effective. In the experiment for slit grinding of SKD11 with a WA blade, it was found that the wear of the blade with a small gap nozzle was approximately 2/3 of the one with a conventional nozzle. The effect of the newly developed nozzle was also confirmed from the results of slit grinding of WC and SUS630 using a diamond wheel and a CBN wheel, respectively.
