Objective. To carry out an approximation to the realities that Venezuelan families live in the Metropolitan Area of Medellin, recognizing both individual and family adjustments to cope with the changes originated in their migration processes, where migratory motivations, gender and family dynamics become the factors that guide their inclusion in a new social context in Colombia. Methodology. Qualitative research was developed with a hermeneutic-interpretative approach, applying in-depth interviews. Thirteen interviews were conducted with Venezuelan families. Results and conclusions. The motivation of the migration process is determined by the precariousness of migrants quality of life in their country of origin was evident. In addition, upon arriving in Colombia, families generate adjustments in their family dynamics and in gender roles which are perceived by migrants as relevant changes that do not necessarily respond to changes in the perceptions of those who have migrated.
