Ovids representation of Jasons and Medeas first rendezvous at the temple of Hekate (Ov. Met. 7, 74-88) in mainly modeled on the account of Apollonios Rhodios. Describing the symptoms of love, however, the poet deviates from his Hellenistic model, shifting the focus to Sappho fr.31. This change, which has so far remained unnoticed, is due to the specific development of Medeas love in the "Metamorphoses". In contrast to the Apollonian version, Ovids Medea is able to defeat Eros for a certain period of time.
