摘要
Reusability is best considered in the context of Total Quality Development (1), the complete product development process. The primary objective is to achieve the best strategic balance between reuse and innovation. New tools such as the reusability matrix can help in the planning and control of reusability, Reusability is one key element in the avoidance of wasted work during new-product development. The other key element is the prevention of rework. By combining reusability and the prevention of rework the time to market for new products can be greatly reduced, and the cost reduced and quality/reliability improved.
