Lessons from the GIS pilot project at Lilongwe City Council

摘要：
The Department of Town Planning and Estate Management Services, Lilongwe City Council has taken the initiative to develop GIS based support tools for key functions. They are the first local government authority in Malawi to adopt GIS technology. The experiences to date in the establishment of the necessary infrastructure and system development are described ill this paper. The project has been based on active participation of LCC staff in ail stages of development. At this stage it seems likely that the immediate objectives will be effectively satisfied. The paper also addresses some issues of relevance for other potential GIS users in Malawi on the basis of this project's experiences.
