摘要
Interest in mining and metallurgy in Canada can be traced to the College des Jesuites, founded in Quebec City in 1635, in which the library contained an original copy of the Latin edition of Agricola's De Re Metallica and other related works. However, teaching of these domains began more than two centuries later when the first engineering schools were founded, and courses in mining and fire assaying were taught within an engineering department; both gradually became independent departments within the Faculty of Engineering. An outline of these developments will be given.
