Molecular configuration of adsorbed cis- and trans-1,2-ethylene dicarboxylic acids and interparticle forces in colloidal dispersions

摘要
The molecular configuration of adsorbed cis- and trans-1,2-ethylene dicarboxylic acids and interparticle forces in colloidal dispersions were studied. The trans-1,2-ethylene dicarboxylic acid was found to enhance the strength of the flocculated structure of the α-Al2O3 dispersion via bridging at the joints and network junctions. The cis-1,2-ethylene dicarboxylic acid weakened the flocculated structure of the α-Al2O3 dispersion by forming a steric layer on the particles.
