Wolfhart Pannenberg's Eschatological Theology: In Memoriam

The theology of Wolfhart Pannenberg is best defined as an eschatological theology. This article explores how his entire theology is permeated by the eschatological perspective. I first analyze several essential themes of Pannenberg's eschatological theology and then critically reflect upon major issues relating to them. Finally, I argue that it is the power of God's love that makes possible the contingency of history and the consummation of the eschatological future, God's temporality and eternity, God's dependence upon the world and eternal self-identity, and the unity of the economic Trinity and the immanent Trinity.
