The new VDI-Guideline-3673 "Pressure Release of Dust Explosions" (Draft) was published in December 2000. This situation makes it necessary to update the WinVent 2.5. The new WinVent 3.0 is based on the guideline VDI-3673 (2000), NFPA-68 (1999) and Bartknecht-Explosionsschutz (1993) and is a software that calculates all the required informations for explosion venting of different vessels for dust, gas and hybrid mixtures. The main changes in the new version WinVent 3.0 are reported and attention drawn to modifications compared with the version WinVent 2.5. ExTools is a software tools box for experts, which allows conversion, estimation, calculation and classification of several fuel and equipment related parameters. It contains also an extensive databank of safety indices of liquids and gases, The information gained from ExTools helps experts to judge the risk in the plant. The application and function of the software toolbox are reported and the possibilities demonstrated with examples.
