The contribution of serial tumour marker assays is becoming acknowledged in multidisciplinary protocols for the monitoring of cancer patients. Serum tumour marker measurements involve several specific problems: good practice and prescription schedule, technical problems, and criteria for interpretation of the results, which wilt be summarised in this paper.
