From Data Sinks to Knowledge Management: Current Challenges of Sensor and Automation Technology in Crop Production

Sensor application and automated process control is state of the art in agricultural production, but still not all plant relevant parameters can be captured by sensors. The systems are still too complex in usage and not fully compatible for data transfer. Data science developed new methods to allow the analysis of large amounts of data. Besides simplification of existing systems this enables the identification of new indicators for plant relevant parameters. Furthermore, appropriate man-machine-interactions need to be developed, which help to enhance the expertise for man and machine alike.
