摘要
Herein, the relationship among perceived brightness, luminance, and chromaticity was investigated. Moreover, two heterochromatic perceived brightness matching experiments were conducted for laser projection televisions (TVs). In the first experiment, based on two laser projection TVs with single diode having the same parameters, the effects of hue and color saturation on perceived brightness were examined. Results show that when hue and luminance arc the same respectively, higher color saturation correspond to higher perceived brightness; furthermore, the effect of varying color saturation on the ratio of the system equivalent luminance to luminance (L-seq/L) of hue is as follows: blue>red>green. In the second experiment, based on two different laser projection TVs with single diode and dual diodes, the effects of different color gamut on perceived brightness were studied. Results indicate that when luminance is same, wider color gamut of the TV correspond to higher perceived brightness; moreover, L-seq/L value of natural images is slightly lower than that of pure images with dominant hue. Additionally, nowadays, the color gamut becomes wider in laser displays with single-, dual-, and trinal-diode lasers. The efficiency of converting electric power to luminance in laser projection TVs with dual and trinal diodes increase by 3% and 24%, respectively, than that with single diode. Investigation results help optimize designs for laser displays with wider color gamut, lower power consumption, and higher perceived brightness.
