The article considers the origins of the creative work of Chaim Soutine (1892-1943), an alumnus of Vilinius Drawing School and coryphaeus of the L'ecole de Paris. It focuses On the essential traits of his painting style and its links with the style of his predecessors and contemporaries. It inquires external 116 and internal factors which determined the originality Of Soutine's style and plastic language. It analyzes the creative potential, aesthetic orientations, and the peculiarities of the pictorial system of the artist.
