Therapeutic justice - recent developments in Romania

Therapeutic justice represents a relatively new concept with initial applicability in the early 1990s in the United States but which has extended in many countries of the world. In the context of the efforts to modernize the administration system of justice, by means of applying some efficient and intelligent measures to drug consumers, different initiatives based on work principles specific to therapeutic justice are put into practice. This article presents the main aspects which have fed the guidelines to the sanction the drug consumer towards therapeutic forms, it presents the legal framework of the indictment of the drug consumer in Romania and it displays the advancement of the projects meant to implement therapeutic justice within the municipality of Bucharest. The course of such pilot activities in Romania indicates the possibility to rehabilitate such persons who are in most of the cases marginalized both by society and by justice.
