摘要
Academic English transformation is heatedly discussed concerning college English teaching. The major type is content-based, which is under constantly minute division of disciplines. Driven by such phenomenon, this study proposes an integration view of English teaching operation mode, with continuum as its feature, and with academic speech and writing as two foci. This perspective holds that academic English instruction is to be regarded as an integrated one rather than the three distinctive phases: EGP, ESP and EAP respectively. This is likely to achieve double effects, namely "using English to learn it" and "learning English to use it". Thus, it is apt to the learning combination of linguistic skills and professional knowledge and to the ability combination of both language and professions. The current research is beneficial to the smooth transformation of EGP, especially to academic English instruction and research.
