摘要
The relation of motion estimation (ME) to MPEG encoding was examined. The algorithmic improvements and source code to the MPEG Software Simulation Group (MSSG) MPEG2 encoder were also discussed. The role of ME was found to be different in Intra, Predicted and Bidirectional Predicted frame types defined by the MPEG coding standard. The motion estimator estimated the motion displacement in the predicted frame, with respect to some source frame.
