Effect of zinc berate as flame retardant formulation on some tropical woods

摘要
Results of the effect of inoculating some tropical woods with zinc berate on their thermal characteristics is hereby presented. Their flame propagation rate, after glow time and flame temperature were drastically reduced as a result of this treatment. Increase in residue(char) and Limited Oxygen Index (LOI) were recorded. It was observed that zinc berate acidified with HCI functions as a flame retardant (FR) formulation by a complex process that entails the dehydration, condensed phase, and the vapour phase mechanisms.
