HYPOTHETICAL FLOOD WAVE WITH FIXED PEAK VALUE EXCEEDANCE PROBABILITY

In developing the shape of a flood wave with fixed peak value exceedance probability, the method developed by Division of Hydrology and Water Management, Warsaw University of Technology, accepted by Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, has been applied until now. This method has however a few defects and does not meet expectations. In this method: flood wave base time is constant, independently of runoff peak value, threshold value of runoff is estimated for every event, flood wave volume is not taken into consideration. A modification of this method, developed in the Institute of Water Engineering and Water Management, Cracow University of Technology, eliminates these shortcomings. The developed method was tested on several tens of cross-sections located in the Upper Vistula basin.
