摘要
We report the identification of a W UMa contact binary less than or similar to 2' from the center of the metal-poor core-collapse globular cluster NGC 6397. The photometric properties of this binary system are consistent with cluster membership. The orbital period is 0.27 days. Fits to theoretical models suggest that the total mass of the system is likely to be greater than the mass of main-sequence turnoff stars. Moreover, since this system is losing angular momentum it will ultimately coalesce and may become a blue snaggier. None of the other approximate to 3000 cluster members observed, including 14 blue stragglers for which there are time series data, showed significant variability.
