FRAMING EUROPEAN ISSUES IN ROMANIAN MEDIA

The media coverage of EU-related issues has been intensively studied in the past twenty years. Considerable research has been done on how European affairs are framed in the media. However, little is yet known about EU-related media frames in recent member states, such as Romania. The present study focuses on the framing of European issues in Romanian TV and online media. We content analyzed the main TV and online media during the month that fallowed the announcement of the German and French interior Ministers to postpone Romania's and Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area. Our aim was to identify how media framed this political decision - essential to the full integration of the two member states - and which were the main EU and domestic actors in the Schengen-related news.
