High temperature mass spectrometric investigation of solid electrolytes

A Knudsen effusion cell mass spectrometric technique was used to study thermal emission of neutral and charged species in temperature range 500-1400 K from the following solid electrolytes (SE): RbAg4I5, KAg4I5, CsAg4I5, Li4GeO4, Li4SiO4, Li0.03V2O5, Li0.2VO2.6, Li4TiP2O9, Na4TiP2O9, AgI, CuI, CuCl, GdCl3-RbCl. SE are proved to be effective emitters of atomic alkaline metal ions. Various ions and molecules have been found in vapours over heated SE. In most cases the emission of associated molecules and ions accompanies vaporisation of SE, Work functions of ions have been determined using Richardson-Dushman equation.
