Fixed speed wind turbine islanding detection method based on wavelet and voltage phasor

As fixed speed wind turbines are still working and they share near 25% of installed wind turbines around the world, so islanding detection subject of fixed speed wind turbine is still important. This paper presents a new passive islanding detection method based on Daubechies 4 wavelet transform on voltage signal for fixed speed wind turbine. In existence of islanding, synchronism between the islanded wind turbine generator and the main network is lost, and the wind turbine generator voltage phasor changes. Sensing the phase variations is the key factor in this research that has been performed with wavelet transform Daubechies 4. The capability of the proposed method is simulated and implemented by a wind turbine simulator that is made by the authors. Besides, power system dynamic does not influence the islanding detection by the proposed method, and false tripping is also eliminated. The simulation is done by matlab/simulink for vestas V47, 660kW, 690V wind turbine. Implemented system approves the excellent performance of the proposed method.
