Preparation and Characterization of New Phase Change Material Microcapsules Suitable for Thermal Insulating Fabrics

摘要
Thermal regulating textiles are a new type of smart textiles, mostly using phase change materials (PCMs). In order to develop PCM microcapsules that can that can ultimately be used in different textile applications, such as thermal environments exposures with a temperature of 45 degrees C or higher, a new type of PCM microcapsules were prepared based on inverse phase emulsion polymerization, with acrylonitrile as the outer shell and a phase change materials as core. Three kinds of microcapsules with different component ratios were investigated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Furthermore, the contributions of microencapsulated PCMs to the thermal performances of fabrics were also evaluated. The investigation by DSC showed the melt point of PCMs in shell was not change and the thermal transmition was obvious. Finally, the great potential use of PCMs in textiles field and some challenges were discussed.
