While game-based learning has been shown to be an effective pedagogical approach, learning through making games has received less attention, particularly for children. This paper addresses this topic within the context of GGJ-Next, a Global Game Jam for youth. We discuss the background, curriculum development, event organization, and lessons learned from the inaugural GGJ-Next and plans for its second year in 2019.
