Lossless 1.5 mu m coded-pulse generator module based on high-speed electroabsorption modulators

摘要
The authors report the first realisation of a 0 dB insertion loss, 19 GHz bandwidth pulse generator module operating at 1.5 mu m, and based on the integration of multiquantum-well InGaAsP electroabsorption modulators connected in tandem, with semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). An 80 mA current in the amplifier section ensures full transparency in the 'ON' state. The module, tested at 10 Gbit/s, was assembled using specially designed aspherically lensed pigtails, and high-accuracy YAG laser welding.
