Primordial black holes from the Early Universe and Hawking radiation

The concepts of primordial black holes (PBHs) and Hawking radiation are very beautiful. The question of how nature could make PBHs was the subject of a recent workshop at UCLA. There are two possible kinds of evidence for PBH that come from (I)the possibility that MACHOs are solar bass PBHs and (2) the search for unusual gamma ray bursts for 10(14) gram PBHs. We review the ways that PBHs can be produced in the Early Universe with two main possibilities at the QCD quark- gluon phase transition (MACHOs) and as a residue from inflation. Possible future experiments will be briefly discussed, including accelerator tests of Unruh (or Hawking) radiation.
