摘要
Over the last several years, two new remediation technologies have been developed and applied to treat chlorinated solvents: chemical oxidation and biological reductive dechlorination. Chemical oxidation involves the injection of a chemical oxidant directly into soil or groundwater to destroy the chlorinated solvents present, while reductive dechlorination involves the injection of a readily biodegradable carbon amendment and inorganic nutrients. Since chemical oxidation creates oxidative subsurface conditions while reductive dechlorination creates reductive conditions, there are major differences between the two technologies in how they are selected, designed, implemented and monitored. This paper will discuss the differences between the two technologies and offer criteria for selecting one over the other.
