Manufacturing of Mg/Al Clad Sheet with Pure Titanium Foil as Inserts by Hot Pressing and Rolling

摘要
The manufacturing process of an Mg/Al clad sheet, in which both faces of a magnesium sheet were covered with an aluminum sheet; such a clad sheet is required to be good deformability and high corrosion resistance, was investigated. After the bonding, this Mg/Al clad sheet could withstand heavy hot rolling. We measured the bonding strength of the bonded Mg/Al clad sheet and the formability and mechanical properties of a 0.5-mm-thick rolled sheet. The obtained results were as follows: (1) the formation of Mg17Al12 at the bonding interface was prevented by inserting pure titanium foil between the magnesium sheet and the aluminum sheets; (2) the bonding strength of the Mg/Al clad sheet with titanium foil inserts was 1.5 times greater than that of a sheet without titanium foil at room temperature; (3) the fracture elongation of the Mg/Al clad sheet with titanium foil inserts was about 2 times greater than that of AZ61; and (4), the formability in bending at room temperature was improved remarkably.
