Clinico-pathological study of recurrent ameloblastoma

Five cases developed recurrence out of the 40 cases with ameloblastoma. Interval between initial treatment and recurrence was ranged from 4 years to 16 years. All 5 recurrent cases had undergone conservative treatment for the primary lesion. Radiographic appearance changed from unilocular to mutilocular in 1 recurrent case, and changed from multilocular to soap-bubble in 4 cases after recurrence. Histologic features changed from plexiform pattern to follicular pattern after recurrence, and acanthomatous change were recognized in 2 cases showing follicular pattern in the primary lesion. One case recurred again, following radical surgery for recurrent lesion.
