Large eddy simulations are performed on the experimental burner MERCATO operated at ONERA fed with air and liquid kerosene. The purpose of the present study is to assess the reliability of the Euler-Euler approach for two-phase flow with and without combustion. The mesoscopic Eulerian quantities for the liquid dispersed phase and the gaseous variables are advanced in space and time with a third-order accurate numerical scheme. Mean and fluctuating velocity components for both phases extracted from the numerical results are compared to existing LDA measurements. The gaseous swirling flow is accurately predicted by the compressible solver. In the non-reacting case, the velocity profiles of the liquid dispersed phase show good agreements with experimental data. In the reacting case, the simulation accurately localizes the two premixed and rich burning zones identified in the experiments.
