摘要
Fluvial deposits in the Geul catchment were dated using Pb and Zn analysis, Pb-210 dating and Cs-137 dating. The heavy metal analysis provided dates for the beginning and the end of industrial mining (1845 and 1882). The correlations between ph and Zn on one hand, and the clay fraction and organic matter content on the other hand, seem to have changed in time, probably under the influence of the mining activities. These periodically variable correlations are of use in assigning dates to the sediment. Cs-137 dating provided dates for the 1950's and the 1980's. The sediment contained no unsupported Pb-210, and therefore no Pb-210 ages could be assigned. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
