摘要
The European Union is not a homogeneous entity in terms of competitiveness. Large disparities exist among Member States, with some countries performing much better than others and well above the European average. Disparities exist in terms of the historical development of the area, population, population density, language, religion, and system of education, social system or the actual growth potential of the state. The main objective of European Union is to ensure the harmonious development of the territory and all of its parts. The aim of this paper is to analyze the indicators by using which we can observe, analyze and compare the regional disparities and the regional development. In general, we can define the concept of regional disparities as differences in levels of socio-economic development, which are due to irregularities. The general object of research is the Slovak republic and their regions at the regional level NUTS 3. Empirical research is carried out and is based on a case study. The case study analyzes the actual socio-economic situation in the Slovak Republic. Economic and social indicators are detailed using statistical tables. It is natural that regions are not identical. Slovak regions are not equally economically developed and we can find the in the area of economy, but also within the various social factors. The intensity of economic growth between regions is also different. The area around the capital city is implemented into Bratislava self-governing region that is, compared with the seven other regions, economically the most advanced region.
