The pedagogy of social work - An obituary

With reference to the recently published second edition of the Handbook of Social Work/Pedagogy of Social Work" (first edition 1984), the author regards the project of a seperate discipline of social work under the roof of educational science as having failed. First signs for this failure are seen not in the more recent developments, but rather in the period of the Weimar Republic. It was then that the difficult and still moot relationship between `welfare science' (today: `science of social work') and pedagogy of social work came into being.
