摘要
Developing a new curriculum specialty in an LIS program requires analysis of challenges and opportunities in the field and development of courses that will help ensure that students are prepared for successful careers in the next century. The University of Maryland College of Library and Information Services' new curriculum in Archives, Records, and Information Management was developed after a thorough review of professional guidelines, consultation with employers and leaders in the field, and an invitational conference of experts. The new curriculum includes theory and practice and balances classroom instruction with field experience. Its development is a case study in how to create a dynamic curriculum that draws and builds on the traditional strengths of a progressive LIS school.
