摘要
Titanium matrix composite is a next generation engineering material produced by using titanium carbide (TiC) particles diffusing in a titanium matrix to match the higher specific strength and stiffness. The typical results of a series of experiments show that XRD can be used to advantage to determine the relation of stress and strain in the components of a MMCs. The thermally induced internal stress in the titanium matrix is tensile and the stress in TiC particles is compressive for Ti-6Al-4V + 7(wt.%) TiC treated at 800 degrees C; on the contrary, as the same composite was treated over 800 degrees C, the thermally induced internal stress in titanium matrix is compressive and that in TiC particles is tensile. In the case of uni-directional loading, the composite. is subjected to a uniform stress rather than a uniform strain; the strain in the TiC particles tends to exhibit anomalous behavior.
