Develop trimless voltage-controlled oscillators - Trimless VCOs, Part 1

VOLTAGE-CONTROLLED oscillators (VCOs) are needed in most wireless systems. Unfortunately, it is common for manufactures of wireless equipment to perform trimming or tuning on VCOs received from a supplier, which adds labor costs and slows time to market. A better solution is represented by a "trimless" VCO which does not require any tuning. This first installation in a two-part article series offers insights into the trimless VCO topology and theory of operation, along with basic design equations and a simplified analysis.
