Public participation in decision-making processes on science and technology policies: possibility of effective intervention against the technoscientific risk

This paper presents an introductory theoretical review on debates that deal with the issue of the technoscientific risk attributed to the development of Science and Technology. Theoretical discussions about the Society of Risk are presented as a direct result of the exponential evolution of Science and Technology. We problematize about how the awareness of people can be a method to the engagement and promotion of effective participation of the social representatives on the decision-making processes about Science and Technology. We aim to emphasize the educational field as a representatives' discussion and engagement locus where problems about relative questions regarding Science, Technology and Society are brought to discussion. We performed a discussion through a bibliographical review and we conclude that the public participation for the control of risks is directly related to the educational formation, at different levels.
