摘要
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand experiences of veterans with incontinence and their caregivers. Methods: This 1-year, descriptive, mixed methods study employed a telephone survey of 64 veterans with incontinence and 36 caregivers of veterans with incontinence. A subset of 18 veterans and 8 caregivers also completed qualitative telephone interviews. Results: Findings indicate a negative stigma associated with incontinence and many veterans wait >1 year before disclosing incontinence symptoms to providers. Conclusion: Educational interventions for veterans and caregivers, increased screening, and greater guidance for health care providers on incontinence among veterans are recommended.Published by Elsevier Inc.
