Sustainability and development of journal collections: challenges and innovation

The present study aims to describe the implementation of a methodology for evaluating journal subscriptions/renewals for the Unicamp Library System. The methodology created comprises the use of three fundamental indicators - usage statistics, cost-per-access ratio and technical opinion on the relevance of the contents, which support the decision making about whether or not to maintain a certain journal title or whether It is more advantageous to obtain articles individually from these journals through international agreements between libraries. The results achieved allowed the rationalization of financial resources in acquisitions and renewals of electronic information sources, without losing sight of the quality of teaching, research and extension activities at the University.
