Let K be a field, and let E be a row-finite (directed) graph. We present a construction of a wealth of maximal commutative subalgebras of the Leavitt path algebra L-K(E), which is a far-reaching generalization of the construction of the commutative core as a maximal commutative subalgebra of L-K(E).
