摘要：
The paper analyzes the role played by science and cultural representations in the construction of modern citizenship in Argentina at the end of the XIX century, focusing on racialist reinterpretations of evolutionism made by Domingo F. Sarmiento and their rela-tionship with the emergence of the La Plata Museum. It also explores the importance of the images in the thematization of a prehistoric past in contrast to a civilized present.
