摘要
Autologous serum eye drops (SED) in sicca syndrome have proven effective in alleviating symptoms and in promoting healing in severe sicca syndrome. For patients who are not able to donate, the DRK Blood Donor Service Chemnitz has also been producing allogeneic SED since 2021. With regards to efficacy and tolerability, allogenic SED are on a par with autologous preparations. For both, the correct indication is crucial for a successful therapy.SED can be produced in a relatively simple process. However, the entire workflow - from the ophthalmologist's prescription to the time when the patient receives the eye drops - is complex. There are a lot of hurdles to overcome for the manufacturer and the patients, who often have impaired vision. Application, blood donation, dispensing, manufacturing and delivery must be well-coordinated to ensure excellent results for all involved parties in the end.
