Synthesis and Antibacterial Evaluation of Some Novel 1-(5-(Pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-3-chloro-4-aryl-azetidin-2-one Derivatives

摘要
A novel synthesis of 1-(5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-3-chloro-4-aryl-azetidin-2-one deriva-tives (3a-f) was done and their antimicrobial activity evaluated. These title compounds were synthesized in three steps. The first step involves the cyclization reaction of isonicotinic acid with thiosemicarbazide to form 2-amino-5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole (1), in the second step compounds 1 react with appropriate aromatic aldehydes to form N-arylidene-2-amine-5-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole or Schiff's bases (2a-f), in step third compound Schiff's bases 2a-f react with chloroacetyl chloride to form the final compounds (3a-f). By using spectra data anal-ysis to describe the structures of synthesized compounds, they were all assessed for their efficacy as antimicrobial agents against some pathogenic bacterial and fungal strains. All of the title compounds exhibited moderate to good antibacterial activity, according to the findings.
