The popular consultation on the Beagle: the resolution of a border dispute in the transition to democracy

With the return of democracy and the arrival of Alfonsin to the government, a new era began in Argentina. His administration implemented all the tools within its reach to put democratic mechanisms into practice. One of them was the popular consultation carried out within the framework of the negotiations to sign the Treaty of Peace and Friendship with Chile, a country with which Argentina had been in dispute for more than 100 years over the Beagle Channel.This paper aims to recall that moment based on the memory of Alfonsin's direct collaborators, on the 40th anniversary of democracy in our country.
