The control of conventionality is essential for aligning national laws with international human rights standards, originating from a 2006 ruling by the of the I/A Court H.R. It involves comparing national legislation with international treaties, impacting both globally and locally. Exercised by the IACHR internationally and by national authorities, it complements constitutional supremacy and focuses on the protection of human rights and human dignity.
