Studien deuten darauf hin, dass eine nasale High-Flow-Sauerstofftherapie bei Neugeborenen mit Bronchiolitis und Hypoxie die Notwendigkeit einer Therapieeskalation verringern konnte. Da die Wirksamkeit der High-Flow-Sauerstofftherapie bei Patienten im Alter zwischen 1 und 4 Jahren mit akutem hypoxamischem Atemversagen ohne Bronchiolitis dagegen weitestgehend unbekannt bleibt, haben Franklin et al. eine randomisierte klinische Studie durchgefuhrt.
