摘要
Direct reading survey meters, designed for the measurement of shallow dose rates, are commercially available. Examples of such instruments include the Fluke 451B, the BOT P200 m with SM20 probe, the Eberline RO-2A and the RAM-Ion. We investigated the potential use of these instruments, as eye lens dose rate meters, with the addition of low-Z filters of suitable thicknesses. Their responses to 90Sr/90Y beta particles and to photons of varied qualities, as functions of angles of incidence, were measured. It was determined that most instruments can be suitably modified to operate as useful eye-lens dose rate meters. Their use in the field could assist radiation protection professionals in the assessment of radiological risk to the lens of the eye. This will allow recommendations on appropriate PPE and dosimetry in individual workplace settings.
